Codys Mother

Description

This is Cody's mother, drawn for the Disney Club's Spitfire Mother's Day contest.

I didn't have much of a clue who to draw when I heard about this contest; I didn't want to draw a mother that anyone else was going to draw, and I didn't want to draw a suggested mother, so I thought hard about it and then remembered Cody's mother, from The Rescuer's Down Under. I honestly feel sorry for this lady, she lives out in the back of woop woop, with only herself and Cody, (her husband is already dead), and Cody has not returned home like he should have. She calls out for him, but he doesn't return. She informs the rangers that her only child is missing, and a few days later they return with just his half eaten backpack. She knows her son is dead (only we know he's just been kidnapped and locked in cage and tormented by a poacher). I would have probably bawled my eyes out if they showed Cody reuniting with his mum.

Anyway, the most difficult part of this drawing was deciding how much of Cody's mother's face to draw, since you never actually see all of her face. Even though you can only see half of her face, I really want to try and keep her the focus, so I had to have her clearly hugging Cody wither arms in front. I don't know if it worked or not. Either way, I'm at least it's better than most of my work.

Now, to the movie; I think that the movie is severely underrated. It is by far the best sequel, but even on it's own I think that it is an amazing movie. It has a great score, a lovable cast of animals, a golden eagle that we all wished we had as our own friend as children, an awesome villain, and, Joanna. I don't need to say more about Joanna but I will anyway; she is awesome. I can name all of the female characters in Disney that were the comedy characters; Flora, Fauna, Merriweather, Turk, and Joanna. That's not much, and I think Joanna was very memorable as a child. Also, the story isn't just about the children of the main characters. I have this recurring nightmare that they make another sequel to this movie and Bernard becomes an over protective father who doesn't want his son to be part of the Rescue Aid Society and Bianca loses all of her personality. I wake up screaming. But yes, the story follows a decent line and it's really enjoyable.

On an end note, I wouldn't be Australian unless I expressed my thoughts on how bad the accents were in this film; terrible. Okay, since most of the characters didn't even try I'm just going to comment on the ones who did. Cody's mother sounded more like she was attempting a horrid English accent, Jake's accent was more like a typical Steve Irwin accent, so while it still is incredibly annoying with the overuse of the term 'mate', I'll forgive him because it was meant to be that way. Now, the winner of the Best Australian Accent Award in this movie is... The radio guy. Yep, the man who announces that the search for the missing boy has been called of. His accent is even better than mine. And amazingly enough, I've actually heard people that sound like that. I have to wonder if Disney got an actual Australian to do his part. Anyway, enough of my rant. I still love the movie. Until next time (when I have a rant about the accents in Finding Nemo)!

Sorry about the long comment; Happy Mother's Day Mummy, and all else out there on Deviantart!
